IMAX® Filme machen es möglich. Keine andere Filmtechnik lässt den Besucher so hautnah am Geschehen teilhaben. Das Bildformat ist zehnmal größer als ein normaler 35 mm Film, wie du ihn aus den normalen Kinos kennst. Die Filmrollen werden dadurch 80-100 kg schwer.

IMAX ist ein von dem gleichnamigen kanadischen Unternehmen IMAX Corporation entwickeltes Kino-System. Es beruht mit 70-mm-Film auf dem breitesten genormten Filmformat bei gleichzeitig größtem üblichen Bildformat auf dem horizontal geführten Film.

Heutige Multiplexe haben in ihren Sälen Leinwände von 20,6 x 8,6 Metern oder 15,6 x 6,6 Metern in den größeren Sälen.
Was sind IMAX Szenen?
Eine weitere Unterform ist es, spezielle im IMAX-Format gedrehte Szenen auf die Blu-ray zu übertragen. Das IMAX-Format entspricht eigentlich eher dem alten 4:3-TV-Format, ist also noch wesentlich höher. Für die Blu-ray wird es aber dem Medium entsprechend auf 16:9 angepasst.

What makes IMAX different?
Therefore, an IMAX projector is completely different from a normal projector: The film moves through it horizontally rather than vertically. A vacuum system sucks each image onto a piece of glass in front of the lens so that the image is oriented perfectly in front of the lens. The shutter opens for a longer period of time than on a normal projector in order to let more light through.
