Was ist Spdif Mode?
SPDIF – Digitale Audioübertragung: All in one Das Kürzel SPDIF, oft auch S/PDIF, steht für „Sony/ Philips Digital Interface“. Hinter der seriellen Schnittstelle stecken die Firmen Sony und Philips, die mit SPDIF eine Spezifikation zur Übertragung von digitalen Stereo- oder Audiosignalen geschaffen haben.
Ist TOSLINK und Spdif das gleiche?
Wer die Übertragungsverfahren miteinander vergleicht, wird keinen großen Unterschied hören. Da sowohl TOSLINK- als auch Koax-Kabel digitale Daten übertragen und die Schnittstelle S/PDIF nutzen, bestehen bei der Übertragungsrate keine Unterschiede.
Was ist der PCM Ton?
Unter PCM (Pulscodemodulation) versteht man das „rohe“, vom AD-Umsetzer generierte, Signal. Das Signal wird also nicht zusätzlich, durch beispielsweise DTS oder Dolby Digital, quellencodiert und damit umgewandelt. Es gibt aber auch verlustfreie Kompressionsverfahren wie DTS-HD Master Audio oder Dolby TrueHD.

Grundsätzlich ist USB Audio Toslink immer vorzuziehen, hängt aber vom Interface ab. Welches Interface nutzt du? Oft ist die Qualität bei USB Interfaces vom USB Ausgang des PCs stark eingeschränkt. Hier kann ein USB Isolator wunder wirken und ist teilweise in guter Qualität schon ab 25€ zu haben.

The optical SPDIF cable is a fiber optics. There are two kinds of optical connector. The most common is a square one (see Figure 11), but a 3.5 mm optical connector is also available (see connector on the right-hand side in Figure 12).
